It is a fun shoe capable of recovery runs as well as cruising at a faster pace. The Novablast was a personal favorite of mine and I recommended it as a general purpose trainer to five other runner friends (for two of them single shoe quiver) and they all had great experiences with it. Released in 2020, the Novablast was ASICS first shoe to use FlyteFoam Blast and was at the front of ASICS recent progression in innovation and modern designs. Jacob: The Novablast is ASICS’s modern, high cushion trainer with a soft, bouncy, and fun FlyteFoam Blast midsole. So what did the team find out when we took it to the roads? The Novablast now appears more stable, more cushioned, and better secured up top thus opening it up as an option for more runners than v1 as an all around daily trainer while retaining its exciting ride. At first glance, given the changes that seems OK and worth it, at least for me. More segmentation of the outsole for a smoother flowĪ soft Jacquard mesh upper with a gusset tongueĬoming in at about 9.85 oz / 280g in a US 9 it does gain about 0.5 oz / 14g. Redesigned rear midsole sidewalls for a more gradual compression and more stabilityĪn extended TPU rear heel overlay, again for more rear stability on the narrow base platform Novablast 2 seeks to address those issues with a number of updates:Ģmm more forefoot foam for more cushion and stability It was not particularly stable, requiring good well aligned form and focus, and its plasticky upper was tricky for some to lockdown and especially so given its big stack height. With a narrow on the ground geometry and big stack the Novablast 1 introduced FlyteFoam Blast, an energetic, bouncy, softer foam. It took ASICS into new territory with a high stack, bouncy, fun shoe sharing little of the brand’s usual serious feeling (dense and on the firm side) and seriously stable rides no matter the shoe. Sam : The first edition of the Novablast was a somewhat unexpected 2020 favorite. The grooves are just positioned differently.Article by Peter Stuart, Jacob Brady, Renee Krusemark and Sam Winebaum ![]() The pattern of the outsole also changed compared to Peg 36, but as far as I noticed it doesn’t add to the quality or changes the running experience itself. But that I have seen with many other running shoes so it is understandable. So t his model I found to be great as a middle distance trainer. What I also noticed was that when it was raining I had problems with slipping. And especially when you take the shoes for long runs and you want to reach great tempo. I didn’t mind basically at all at short distances around 5 miles. It is not such a difference, that is true. But my Pegasus 37 goes up to 10.67 oz (around 302 g). Just to let you know what I mean: I have my Pegasus 36 in size 10 and it reaches 9.33 oz (around 264 g). While Pegasus was a classic Nike lightweight running shoe, Peg 37 is on the heavier side from those that I know from Nike. ![]() The springy feeling that I got from the Nike Pegasus 37 was maybe awesome but I didn’t like the weight of these shoes that much. ![]() Just to add… I t ested this model on more than a 100 miles (160 km) for two months. Nike truly made some significant changes and we are gonna take a look at them right now. That was actually quite exciting for me and for writing this review later as well. Before trying them, I had no clue what to expect this time. What is interesting, though, is that Nike promised to make Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 way different from the previous model 36. I know which model to take for long distances ( Nike Zoom Fly 3), which model is better for casual indoor activities ( Nike Legend Essential) and of course which Nike model to completely avoid (for instance Nike Roshe Run, let’s be honest, every brand has bad models, Nike is no exception). Why do I love them so much? Because after those years of wearing them, I perfectly know what to expect from their models. I have tried some time ago ASICS, Inov-8, adidas as well but always got back to Nike shoes. As for running sneakers, I am a real patriot.
